Long Beach uses a 100-point deductive scoring system with posted letter grades, operated independently from LACDPH. Inspectors deduct points for violations observed during routine inspections, and the resulting score determines the posted letter grade.

Long Beach Fire Department covers the entire city — there is no multi-authority complexity. Long Beach Fire Department handles all fire safety inspections, hood suppression system approvals, and fire code enforcement within city limits.
Hood Cleaning Standard
NFPA 96 Table 12.4 schedule applies. Hood cleaning frequency depends on cooking volume and type — high-volume solid fuel operations require quarterly cleaning.
Suppression Inspection
UL-300 wet chemical suppression systems required. Semi-annual inspection and certification by a licensed C-16 contractor.
Long Beach Fire Department is the sole fire authority for the entire city, which simplifies fire safety compliance compared to unincorporated LA County areas that may deal with multiple fire authorities. Long Beach Fire Department maintains its own plan review and inspection processes.
